Siena Water Polo Swept in MAAC Games

April 9, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team dropped a pair of games Sunday, narrowly succumbing to St. Francis (N.Y.), 7-6 and to host Iona by a score of 15-9 in New Rochelle, N.Y. The defeats dropped the Green and Gold to 8-15 overall and 1-3 in the conference following the opening weekend of MAAC competition.

In the opener against the Terriers, the Saints overcame a two goal halftime deficit, erupting for four goals in the third to tie the game at 4-4. However, St. Francis rallied in the final period to secure the one goal victory.

Lauren Garrigan continued her recent hot stretch, supplying four of the six Siena tallies. Gina Guevara and Devan Ragg accounted for the other two Saints' goals.

In the nightcap, the Saints fell to host Iona for the second time this season, 15-9. After playing to a 2-2 score after the first, the Gaels exploded for four goals in the second and six more in the third to widen the gap and claim victory.

Garrigan again led the way, tallying a hat trick, while Ragg and Lauren Biehle each contributed a pair of scores. Camille Norman and Jackie Crosby totaled the other Siena tallies.

The Saints return to action for another full weekend of MAAC competition slated to get underway on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. The Green and Gold will match up once more against the Gaels and host school Villanova beginning at 10 a.m.
