Stags Slam Saints in Season Finale
April 20, 2008
Loudonville, N.Y. - Four Stags scored three or more goals as Fairfield completed an undefeated regular season in the MAAC by defeating the Siena women's lacrosse team in their season finale by a score of 24-13 this afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. Captain Lindsey Rosecrans and senior Kathryn Marcantonio each recorded four points apiece as the Saints dropped their fourth straight to end the year. After Fairfield (16-1, 6-0) opened an early 3-0 lead just under four minutes in, Siena (3-11, 1-5) responded with three goals of their own to nod the game at 3-3 at the 22:44 mark. Rosecrans was involved in all three goals, scoring two while assisting on the other which came off the stick of Marcantonio. The high powered Stags offense responded by scoring 10 of the next 12 goals to reclaim the lead and pull away with a 13-5 advantage. The resilient Saints however scored four goals in the final 1:47 of the half, including three in the final 38 seconds, to gain momentum and pull within 14-9 at intermission. But Fairfield regrouped to tally four of the first five goals of the second half in taking an 18-10 lead and never looked back from there. The Stags peppered Siena goalie Liz Peters with 46 shots, 34 of which were on goal. Peters posted ten saves. Siena enjoyed success in free-position attempts, cashing in on four of seven opportunities. Catherine Quinlan added a pair of goals for the Saints and Lynn Harkins added a goal and an assist in her final game for the Green and Gold. Rosecrans completed a solid all-around game adding five draw controls, four groundballs and four caused turnovers to her totals.
Erin Rigby led the Stags with six points, including four goals, while teammates Rebecca White, Abbey Goodwin and Kristen Coleman each added hat tricks. Siena completes the season at 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Fairfield, who already qualified for the MAAC Tournament, will be the top seed in the championships which begins next week in New Rochelle, N.Y. |
