Melissa Manzer Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

April 17, 2008

Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena women's basketball senior tri-captain Melissa Manzer was named to the Academic All-District Team earlier today as announced by CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine. The honor is awarded in recognition of a player's accomplishments as a scholar-athlete who excels both in academics and athletics.

"I am honored to have been given this award," said Manzer. "I want to thank everyone who helped and supported me to reach my academic and athletic goals including my family, my teammates and the coaching staff."

On the basketball court, Manzer graduates as one of the most decorated players in program history. She finished her career ranking amongst the all-time Siena leaders with 964 career points. Her career free throw percentage of 90.6% is tops in program history and her 162 made three pointers are fifth best.

This season, Manzer led the MAAC in free throw percentage (.895), while ranking second in three pointers made (71) and ninth in scoring (13.3).

In the classroom, Manzer posted a cumulative GPA of 3.7 as a Marketing and Management major. She has been a MAAC All-Academic Team selection on several occasions and was the Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month in January 2007.

Recently, at the end of year Women's Basketball Awards Banquet, Manzer was the recipient of the Vicki Aromando Academic Excellence Award.

The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Teams are selected annually by voting members of CoSIDA.
